I Can’t Lose Weight in a Day

PrintThe Bull 3You’ve tried, well, EVERYTHING, to lose weight, and nothing works.  You are successful at a diet, a fad, a program for 2 weeks, and then, you treat yourself to some chocolate to reward yourself…first once a week, then 4 times, then once an hour, and before you know it, your diet isn’t working, and you give it up.  You go to the gym, try running on the treadmill, it feels GREAT!  Then you start jogging, then walking, then you read your paper while you run, which means you have to walk, and soon enough it seems like your clothes are getting too small again……Then you decide you just CAN’T lose weight, it’s not possible, it’s the diets, they don’t fit your lifestyle, you don’t have time, you don’t have budget….waaaah waah waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

 

The BustThe only plan that will work for you, is the one you use, every day.  If you decide to eat chocolate, chips, fries, soda, and lots of bread, that is your CHOICE.  Don’t blame the diet. Blame your hand for bring the food in contact with your mouth, your mouth for swallowing, and your butt for opting to sit on the couch so much.  Once you pay attention to your choices, you can then honor the control you have to eat right, exercise powerfully, or continue the crap-food, lazy-ass party.

If you want to see a difference in how you feel in just one day, here are some ideas that I’ve found work great!  No, you will not drop 10 pounds.  What you will notice is that your stomach feels less stretched out, your clothes fit a wee bit better, and that if you keep them up, you actually WILL lose that weight:

  1. Eat big, then small.  If you’re a fan of hearty meals, opt to make LUNCH your biggest meal of the day.  That way, you have the rest of the day to digest, and burn off the calories.  At night, eat something light, like a salad, fish, tofu, veggies….just satisfy the need to eat, but don’t overload.  In one day, I swear, this makes a huge difference.  When you wake up the next morning, you will notice yourself feeling just a bit tinier, and boy is that inspiring!
  2. Half-ass it.  Whatever you eat, especially if you’re eating out, or getting lunch from a take-out place, put HALF the amount on your plate.  So, if you’re in a restaurant, literally separate your food in half on your plate.  See if you can get the waiter to box up that half right away so you don’t have to stare at it.  If you got take-out, then take half, and put the rest in the fridge for tomorrow.  [BONUS! You can save money on lunch tomorrow!]  Notice that if you wait a few minutes after eating the half, you actually DO survive, and you feel pleasantly full without feeling stretched.  Get used to that feeling, instead of the one where you think you need to unbutton your pants to make room for all the food they put on your plate.
  3. Come out of hiding. Try classes at the gym instead of working out on your own.  It’s harder to get away with under-exercising when so many people are watching.
  4. Write it down.  Food and exercise are like money – when you pay attention, you get results.  If you want some serious weight-loss, write down what you eat each day, and when you work out.  There’s no better way to avoid lying to yourself.
